The story centers around Devi Vishwakumar who is a 15-year-old Indian-American Tamil girl from Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. After her father passes away, Devi loses the use of her legs for three months. After a socially horrible freshman year, she wants to change her social status, but friends, family, and feelings do not make it easy for her.The following year, she tries to deal with her grief, Indian identity, and school life, also struggling with her relationship with her mother, her crush, and her enemy.

This show has an accurate representation of what it is like to be in a minority community in an American society. It is a struggle to find the middle balance between your familial cultural values and the American societal values. Also, it gives a reflection on what it is like to be Indian and growing up with the American public shool system. It is overall a great show for comedic value, drama, and overall understanding and compassion for the main character.
